SANS launches interactive cyber security training for Saudi professionals
SANS launches interactive cyber security training for Saudi professionals
The SANS Institute has launched interactive cyber security training for Saudi professionals. Scheduled dates for the online training event SANS Kingdom Cloud Security 2021 are from September 11th to 16th. The event will provide security professionals in Saudi Arabia and the GCC area with the knowledge and competence to defend organizations and their assets. It is designed to establish practical cyber security skills that can be deployed immediately.
Saudi Arabia was subjected to 7 million cyberattacks in the first three months of 2021, according to a report released in March 2021 by cybersecurity firm Kaspersky. The increase coincided with the Saudi government's statement that office work and other activities would be restricted. In 2020, the country was also hit by over 22.5 million brute force attacks on Windows systems utilizing remote desktop protocols (RDPs). Meanwhile, a whopping 95 percent of Saudi enterprises have been hit by a cyber-attack.
"In this post-pandemic world, it has become increasingly critical for organizations in Saudi Arabia and the GCC to bring in more cyber security practitioners – or upskill existing cybersecurity teams – to keep up with the rapidly evolving threat landscape. SANS Kingdom Cloud Security 2021 will provide an immersive training experience while imparting industry-relevant and innovative content, alongside skills and techniques that will empower security professionals to defend organizations against breaches and future attacks, no matter how sophisticated they may be," said Ned Baltagi, Managing Director – the Middle East and Africa at SANS Institute.
Expert instructors and real-world practitioners will deliver live-streamed sessions at SANS Kingdom Cloud Security 2021 to impart practical cyber security training. Hands-on laboratories in a virtual environment will be available and courses backed by electronic and paper books, including some that match with GIAC certificates.
Serge Borso, a leading cyber security expert, published author, President of the Denver Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) chapter, and founder and CEO of the cyber security consulting firm SpyderSec, will lead the SEC488: Cloud Security Essentials (GCLD: GIAC Cloud Security Essentials) course. Borso will train security professionals to advise and speak on a wide range of issues during the course, assisting organizations in successfully navigating both the security problems and opportunities posed by cloud services.
Jonathan Risto will teach the second course, MGT516: Managing Security Vulnerabilities: Enterprise and Cloud. Risto has a solid technical experience, having worked in network architecture, IP telephony, service development, security, and project management during his 20-year career. He'll arm security professionals with the knowledge they need to fight the VM battle effectively. Lab exercises and the Cyber42 game, which puts participants in the driver's seat for the fictional Everything Corporation, reinforce what they've learned ("E-Corp"). MGT516 will also explain why many organizations still have difficulty managing vulnerabilities.
Professionals who register for the SANS Kingdom Cloud Security 2021 event will be eligible to participate in an exclusive NetWars Tournament, a set of hands-on, interactive learning scenarios that allows participants of all skill levels to develop and master real-world skills, in-depth skills required to succeed. NetWars is a game with cutting-edge challenges and an engaging storyline.
Participants will also get the opportunity to attend SANS Summits to further their knowledge, skills, and industry connections. Summits bring together practitioners and experts in the field of cybersecurity to share and discuss case studies, lessons learned, new tools, and cutting-edge techniques.
Upcoming Event
With the SANS Cyber Safari 2021, the SANS Institute will continue to develop practical cyber security skills that practitioners can use right away. This event will take place in person in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from the 24th to October 29th, while also being live-streamed. Hands-on laboratories in a virtual environment, electronics and printed books, and courses aligned with GIAC certifications are all included in the sessions.
Classes will be given in SANS' innovative In-Person Live Stream (IPLS) format at SANS Cyber Safari 2021. Participants in this training mode can come to the training location and train in a specialized classroom with live support from certified Teaching Assistants.
