“Scammers are leveraging compromised YouTube accounts to promote fake cryptocurrency giveaways for Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, Cardano, Ripple, Shiba Inu and other cryptocurrencies,” said Satnam Narang, Staff Research Engineer at Tenable.

CPR found 11 compromised wallet accounts, each of them containing between $1K to $10K. CPR went on to learn that the scammers had withdrawn some of the funds already before CPR’s discovery.

The attackers broadened their scope from Asia to US and Europe. Sophos discovered attacker-controlled Bitcoin wallet containing roughly $1.4 million in bitcoin purportedly acquired from victims. The threat has been dubbed "CryptoRom" by Sophos researchers
