Pure Storage®, a global data storage technology company, has announced significant updates to its Portworx® platform to enhance Kubernetes workload management for virtual machines (VMs), databases, and AI/ML applications. These enhancements support the growing demand for unified solutions that can efficiently handle modern, data-heavy applications across Kubernetes environments.

With enterprises increasingly adopting Kubernetes for managing complex workloads like AI (now used by 97% of organizations), the need for a unified platform is more pressing than ever. Fragmented tools tailored to specific workloads create challenges in optimizing resources and scaling operations. Portworx by Pure Storage provides a streamlined approach, simplifying management and enabling teams to focus on innovation while improving operational efficiency.

Portworx now offers a range of powerful new capabilities to meet the evolving demands of modern workloads:

  • AI/ML Workload Support: Portworx introduces as-a-service delivery for managing AI-driven applications, including support for vector databases like Milvus, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and graph databases like Neo4j. This update simplifies deployment and management of AI/ML workloads, accelerating development in generative AI and other complex AI applications.
  • Unified Data Management for VMs and Containers: As enterprises modernize their infrastructure, Portworx helps manage both VMs and containers on Kubernetes. By consolidating data management across these environments, organizations can reduce costs and streamline operations, supporting faster application modernization.
  • Enterprise-Grade Security and Resource Optimization: Portworx enhances security and resource management with advanced features like role-based access control (RBAC) and granular controls, improving ROI and scalability in multi-tenant environments. The platform also boosts SQL Server data resiliency with support for Availability Groups and offers streamlined database deployment via a Terraform provider, integrating seamlessly with GitOps and infrastructure-as-code workflows.

Murli Thirumale, VP & General Manager at Portworx by Pure Storage, said, “Portworx extends its platform to support VM, database, and AI/ML workloads, enabling our customers to modernize their IT infrastructure with a unified, scalable platform. This helps accelerate application development and improve data management.”

Peter Smails, General Manager at SUSE, added, “By combining SUSE Rancher Prime with Portworx, we’re helping enterprises deploy and scale mission-critical applications seamlessly across any environment, ensuring optimal performance and productivity.”

Mike Barrett, VP at Red Hat, commented, “These enhancements empower organizations to deploy both VMs and containers on Kubernetes, enabling end-to-end application development and deployment at scale for improved operational efficiency.”

Torsten Volk, Principal Analyst at ESG, stated, “Portworx is addressing critical challenges caused by data fragmentation and operational inefficiencies. These updates will help organizations modernize legacy VM infrastructure and accelerate development within a unified, enterprise-grade data management platform.”

Portworx by Pure Storage continues to lead in container data management, enabling businesses to modernize their IT environments while ensuring robust data management and resilience for Kubernetes workloads.
