Multiple supply chain disruptions that occurred over the previous two years had an impact on business operations in the majority of industries. There is also no exception in the electric power industry.
Hosting the Global Electric Power Summit as part of HUAWEI CONNECT 2022 DUBAI at the same time as industry experts gathered in Dubai for Gitex Technology Week 2022 was a significant move on Huawei’s part.
The summit’s goal was to bring together Huawei’s clients, partners, industry pioneers, and thought leaders from across the world to discuss and collaborate on “Unleash Digital and Create New Value for Electric Power.”
The summit began with opening remarks from Zhou Haojie, COO of Huawei Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, who suggested green and low-carbon development as global trends while also highlighting the importance of economic development, energy security, and supply continuity.
Zhou expressed his confidence in Huawei for its digital journey, noting that the company had reorganized its organization and established business units for digitalization that were industry-specific, such as the Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit.
With digitalization already infiltrating power generation plants and substations, system planners face new challenges now.
The electrical substation management market is anticipated to grow significantly between 2022 and 2030 at a healthy CAGR of roughly 11.1%, according to a detailed research report by Market Research Future (MRFR). The report also projects that by the end of 2030, the market will be worth approximately USD 1,565.45 million.
With the aforementioned forecast, many aftereffects are still visible as we move past the pandemic, particularly in the power sector. In an era when power is more important than ever, current challenges could jeopardize electric reliability. The global substation market may be impacted by safety and security risks, a lack of unified integrated solutions, and other factors. Longer lead times, price and rate increases, and irregular raw and finished goods deliveries may follow. As a result, utilities must act quickly to address the issue.
Therefore, the introduction of the Huawei Intelligent Substation Inspection Solution during the summit by David Shi, President of Huawei Middle East Enterprise Business Department, and Zhou Haojie, COO of Huawei Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, is a significant step at this time. Real-time 24/7 safety, security, and risk monitoring is provided by the integrated solution, which has one unified remote inspection system, one unified data integration system, and one unified on-site environment system. It decreases errors caused by disconnected systems and covers data silos with digitized processes. The effectiveness, precision, and quality of daily operations are all greatly improved.
Zhou Haojie told TECHx Media about the launch of Huawei Intelligent Substation Inspection Solution: “With years of experience in the electric power industry and digital technology field, Huawei further explores customer requirements for cost reduction and efficiency improvement, and works with industry-leading partners to develop the intelligent substation inspection solution. The solution employs a unified remote inspection system to provide intelligent linkage, intelligent risk warning, and intelligent device inspection, resulting in centralized, multidimensional real-time awareness that improves maintenance efficiency and lowers labor costs.”
Huawei’s digital platform enables OT/IT multi-system integration and docking to form an integrated MSC, assisting customers in gradually establishing data connections and enabling data linkage and value data mining. This intelligent substation inspection solution is currently being used successfully in Saudi Arabia and will be expanded to other countries and regions in the future,” Zhou added.
Zhou also commented on Huawei’s establishment of the Electric Power Digitalization Business Unit, saying that the organization was formally established on March 30, 2022. Devices, the cloud, ICT infrastructure, and architecture design are only a few of the products, solutions, and services that the Business Unit offers in response to the key problems of digitalizing the electric power industry.
“The establishment of the Business Unit has enabled Huawei to successfully shorten processes and integrate resources. Vertically, the R&D team can better understand customer requirements and continuously improve technologies. Horizontally, Huawei’s ecosystem partners can collaborate to deliver customized, scenario-based solutions to customers. This, I believe, is the most significant change since the Business Unit’s inception “Zhou continued.
