Riverbed unified NPM improves cloud visibility & reporting capabilities

Riverbed unified Network Performance Management (NPM) improved cloud visibility and reporting capabilities for Azure NSG and AWS VPC flow logs. As organizations continue to shift toward hybrid and multi-cloud network environments, key updates to the Riverbed Network Performance Management (NPM) portfolio—the network visibility solution that collects every packet, all flows, and all infrastructure metrics 100 percent of the time–—deliver greater cloud visibility that is critical to monitoring productivity and performance.

As part of Riverbed’s Unified NPM solution, Riverbed NetProfile enables organizations to achieve full-fidelity network flow monitoring to proactively identify and quickly troubleshoot performance and security issues. The new features introduced will improve cloud visibility by supporting native Azure NSG flow logs and augment support for AWS VPC flow logs. Riverbed automates reporting capabilities for AWS VPC flow logs to enrich information sharing. Riverbed is also introducing a  modernized user interface (UI) with a new home screen and simplified search functionality, making NetProfiler easier to use and helps NetOps and SecOps users to more quickly resolve network issues.

“Release of Riverbed NetProfileris critical to NetOps and SecOps and is focused on gaining more in-depth traffic insights from Azure and AWS flow logs to proactively identify and quickly remediate performance and security issues while gaining cost and latency efficiencies. It also relieves the loss of visibility in migrating applications to Azure or AWS Cloud,” said David Winikoff, Vice President, Product Managementat Riverbed.

Further said, “Additionally, the new home page and search features make it easier for help desk and support users to solve problems, while still serving Riverbed’s traditional power users. Riverbed is delivering end-to-end visibility—across users, networks, and applications—enabling organizations to modernize and secure their networks, accelerate cloud and SaaS migrations, improve business productivity and advance hybrid and work-from-anywhere environments.”

Support for Azure NSG Flow Logs

The new RiverbedNetProfiler now supports the consumption of Azure NSG flow logs, the Azure platform’s native flow generation method. Riverbed NetProfiler generates two Azure cloud reports using this Azure flow data: Azure NSG Flow Information and Azure Billable Data Transfer.

Applications, hosts, and dialogues are displayed by VNETs, Regions, and Availability Zones in the Azure NSG Flow Information reports. Most crucially, it addresses that top concern by mapping application interactions across the network for any service. The complete traffic reporting capabilities of NetProfiler may also be used to analyze and report on Azure NSG flow logs and AWS VPC flow logs data. The Azure Billing Data Transfer report assists enterprises in determining where cloud expenditures are incurred so that better strategies and actions can be made to help reduce them. This report gives enterprises access into traffic volumes based on Azure pricing rules, which can help them save money and time.

AWS VPC Flow Log support updates

AWS VPC Flow Log functionality was previously available in Riverbed NPM, but it required businesses to manually establish and maintain AWS host groups in order to run AWS visibility reports. Riverbed NetProfiler now uses AWS’s latest changes to AWS VPC Flow Logs and automates host groups for a faster and less error-prone procedure. Riverbed NetProfiler monitors the AWS Management Console for metadata and populates the AWS host group definitions accordingly.

Updated Home Page UI and Search

New additions in Riverbed NetProfiler include a new home page that gives deeper insight and easier search functionality, as well as a modernised user interface. The redesigned home screen makes it easier for new or infrequent users to see how the network and applications are working, what issues need to be addressed, and how issues are trending. Organizations may simply search the data or delve down into it based on context. On a per-user basis, the at-a-glance performance summaries can be adjusted. Organizations can now choose between the last hour, last day, and last week periods, and this insight loads quickly, ensuring speedy response to performance concerns.

Improved security

For its services, including syslogs, Riverbed NetProfiler now supports the Transport Layer Security (TLS) Protocol1.3. New systems now come with a minimum of TLS 1.2 and 2048-bit cypher certificates pre-installed. TLS enables client/server applications to communicate securely over the Internet, preventing eavesdropping, manipulation, and message forgery.
