Samsung Electronics has announced an upgrade to its voice assistant, Bixby, introducing enhanced AI capabilities for home appliances. Starting August 27, Bixby will feature improved comprehension, enabling it to better understand complex natural language commands, making device control more intuitive for users.

Miyoung Yoo, EVP and Head of Software Development Team for Digital Appliances at Samsung Electronics, highlighted the company’s commitment to improving the user experience. “By upgrading Bixby, we aim to enhance consumers’ lives by simplifying appliance use and offering a more personalized experience,” Yoo stated.

This year, Samsung has already launched AI-powered home appliances, such as the Bespoke 4-Door French Door Refrigerator with AI Family Hub™, Bespoke Jet Bot Combo™ AI, and Bespoke AI Laundry Combo™. The new Bixby update will extend its capabilities, further enriching the consumer experience.

Key Features of the Upgraded Bixby

The enhanced Bixby voice assistant offers three main improvements: Multi-Intent, Multi-Turn, and Device Q&A.

– Multi-Intent: Bixby can now process multiple or unrelated commands in a single sentence, allowing for more natural user interaction. For instance, users can say, “Hi Bixby, what’s the weather like? Start washing and clean the living room,” and Bixby will execute these tasks sequentially.

– Multi-Turn: Bixby remembers the context of previous conversations, enabling ongoing dialogues with appliances. Users can seamlessly continue conversations, making interactions more fluid and less repetitive.

– Device Q&A: When encountering issues or queries about appliance features, users can ask Bixby for assistance. For example, users can inquire about error codes or unusual appliance sounds, and Bixby will provide answers, with responses displayed on-screen for devices like refrigerators or delivered audibly for others.

Generative Wallpaper for Personalized Family Hub™ Screens

Samsung is also introducing Generative Wallpaper for its Family Hub™ refrigerators. This feature allows users to create custom wallpapers by selecting themes and art styles, generating unique images for their appliance screens.

Samsung will showcase its Bespoke AI appliances with the upgraded Bixby and Generative Wallpaper at IFA 2024, offering attendees a glimpse into the future of smart home technology.
