Schneider Electric, an energy management and automation company, has partnered with the International Trade Centre (ITC), a United Nations agency, and the French NGO Atelier 21, to introduce an innovative online course on energy transition. The course, titled “Become a Player in the Energy Transition,” is now available for free and can be accessed by anyone in English, with additional languages planned for the future.
As fossil fuel prices continue to skyrocket globally and experts warn of the impending breach of the Paris Agreement’s 1.5C warming limit, the urgency to shift to low-carbon energy sources has never been greater. This newly launched course aims to enhance public awareness and understanding of the political and technological challenges associated with the transition, as well as the benefits it offers. It incorporates a diverse range of case studies from both rural and urban settings, highlighting varying levels of development. Furthermore, the module encourages participants to explore professional opportunities in the clean energy sector by directing them to more specialized courses on solar power, wind power, and other relevant areas.
Raphaël Dard, the Programme Manager at the ITC SME Trade Academy, expressed confidence that this course is just the first in a series focusing on sustainable human behavior on the planet. The collaborative effort between ITC, Schneider Electric, and Atelier 21 lays the foundation for future initiatives in this direction. Cédric Carles, Founder and Director of Atelier 21, remarked, “This free online course represents another step forward in our mission to educate and empower individuals and businesses to embrace the energy transition. Through our collaboration with ITC and Schneider Electric, we are drawing closer to our goal: a world where every person understands and contributes to a sustainable energy future.”
Participation in this initiative aligns with Schneider Electric’s longstanding commitment to sustainability and youth empowerment. The company has set a target to provide professional training to one million young people by 2025, and thus far, over 400,000 individuals have already benefited from this initiative.
Gilles Vermot Desroches, the General Delegate of the Schneider Electric Foundation and Director of Citizenship and Institutional Affairs, emphasized the company’s pride in playing a significant role in the field of education. The launch of this free online course demonstrates Schneider Electric’s unwavering commitment to the energy transition and its determination to be accessible to all.
