Sony MEA Unveils FE 85mm F1.4 GM II Lens with Advanced Features

Sony Middle East and Africa has announced the launch of the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II (SEL85F14GM2), a premium lens offering a powerful combination of high resolution, stunning bokeh, and fast autofocus (AF) in a compact design. This second-generation lens builds on the success of its predecessor by integrating the latest technology, making it an ideal choice for creative professionals in photography and videography. When paired with Sony’s Alpha™ series cameras, the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II excels in various applications, including portrait photography, wedding shoots, travel photography, and cinematic video production.

The FE 85mm F1.4 GM II features an advanced optical design that includes two XA (extreme aspherical) and two ED (extra-low dispersion) lenses. This sophisticated design effectively reduces aberrations, delivering outstanding image quality with corner-to-corner resolution and rendering. The lens is also equipped with Sony’s Nano AR Coating II, which minimizes flare and ghosting, ensuring clear and crisp images. The 11-blade circular aperture and optimized spherical aberration contribute to the beautiful, soft bokeh that is a hallmark of Sony’s G Master series lenses.

Autofocus performance has been significantly improved, with the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II offering up to three times faster AF compared to the previous model. It also supports the Alpha 9 III’s 120fps continuous shooting, with subject tracking performance enhanced by up to seven times.

In terms of design, the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is approximately 20% lighter and 13% smaller in volume than its predecessor, making it a more portable option for photographers. Weighing in at just 642 grams, the lens features a filter diameter of 77 mm, a diameter of 84.7 mm, and a length of 107.3 mm. For video creators, the FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is equipped with an XD linear motor that enables smooth focus transitions. The lens minimizes focus breathing and supports in-body focus breathing compensation, making it suitable for cinematic video production. Additionally, the lens features two customizable focus hold buttons, an AF/MF switch, an independent aperture ring, and Linear Response MF focus control, providing intuitive and flexible operation.
