Spectacular light festival at Expo 2020 Dubai to bring the site to life. From incredible structures designed by superstars of the architecture world, such as Asif Khan, Foster + Partners, Grimshaw, and Hopkins Architects, to its landscaped public areas, Kaleidoscope, a stunning outdoor night-time light festival, will bring Expo 2020 Dubai’s site to life for the mega-entire event’s six-month run.
Kaleidoscope will harness the power of photography, light, and visual arts over the course of 182 visually stunning and emotionally moving nights. The festival will interact with Expo 2020’s significant activities and worldwide entertainment, such as Diwali and Christmas, to communicate meaningful stories in immersive ways.
The Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Awards (HIPA), which has been specially chosen to link to Expo’s subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility, and Sustainability using imagery from HIPA’s archive, which dates back to its founding in 2011, is providing much of the light show’s imagery.
Grant Reid, Vice President, Events and Entertainment, Expo 2020 Dubai, said: “While the past 18 months have been unprecedently challenging, we believe that collaboration can inspire a better future – something we hope to highlight in our light show. A kaleidoscope is symbolic: once shaken, it shows something new but equally beautiful; and light has the power to conquer darkness.
“Through Kaleidoscope, our subthemes – Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability – will be vividly brought to life, reminding us of their relevance now more than ever before.”
The light festival will offer a self-guided guest experience, with facilities for social distancing, in addition to displaying Expo’s subthemes, dynamic programming, and the power of human interaction.
Expo 2020, which will take place from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022, will bring together more than 200 people from 191 countries, as well as businesses, multilateral organisations, and educational institutions, with the goal of addressing some of the world’s most pressing issues, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During a six-month celebration of human creativity, invention, progress, and culture, it will welcome millions of visitors from all over the world to participate in the creation of a new world.
