Phobos and Deimos, the two moons orbiting Mars, were projected in the sky using a new technology that has never been seen before in the UAE, two giant 100-meter cranes and an advanced 40-meter screen have been used to make the moons appear realistically in the sky and visible from long distances.
Generation Hope will be running two camps in December and January. The first is a five-day Generation Hope Camp in December that will focus on hosting workshops for middle and high school students aged 12 to 18 years old about Mars and related science topics, and the latest updates on the EMM.
The journey is expected to last seven months, traveling a distance of 493 million km, before entering the Martian orbit in February 2021, coinciding with UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
The Hope Probe successfully lifted off at 01:58 am UAE time, after the countdown for the last 10 seconds was done in Arabic.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said space programmes are the gateway to science and talent development and the Emirates Mars Mission will position the UAE at the forefront of the Arab scientific movement.
The launch is the culmination of efforts of a large team of young Emirati cadres, comprising 200 engineers, experts and researchers, who over the past six years have prepared for this moment and ensured that all scientific and logistical preparations to control the Probe mission were completed.
