Sophos published a new sectoral survey report, The State of Ransomware in State and Local Government 2022, which found that 72% of state and local government organizations attacked by ransomware had their data encrypted—7% more than the cross-sector average.
Sophos, a global provider of next-generation cybersecurity, released a new sectoral survey report, The State of Ransomware in Retail 2022, which discovered that retail had the second highest rate of ransomware attacks among all sectors surveyed last year, trailing only the media, leisure, and entertainment industry. Globally, 77% of retail organizations surveyed were affected, representing a 75% increase from 2020. This is also 11% higher than the overall attack rate of 66%.
In keeping with the trend of cross-platform ransomware, Kaspersky has discovered new ransomware gangs that have learned to adapt their malware to multiple operating systems at the same time, causing more damage to organizations. Kaspersky experts recently discovered the activity of RedAlert and Monster – groups that were able to perform attacks on different operating systems without the use of multiplatform languages.
