As the leading third-party docking station and laptop bag brand in the U.S. and a prominent figure in laptop cases and mobile computing accessories, Targus has recently unveiled its second annual 2024 Global Sustainability Report. This report highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting transparency and accountability in its sustainability efforts.

In the report, Targus showcases its progress in environmental stewardship and outlines ambitious sustainability goals. These include reducing total plastic packaging mass by 50% by 2025 (compared to 2020 levels) and achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

“Targus is proud to bring our sustainable product range to the UAE! As part of our commitment to environmental responsibility, we are introducing innovative solutions that not only meet the needs of modern professionals but also minimize our ecological footprint. Our eco-friendly products are designed with sustainability in mind, using recycled materials and sustainable practices throughout the manufacturing process. We believe that technology should not only enhance productivity but also contribute to a healthier planet”, Chad Damon, Sales Director MEA.

The report aligns Targus’s sustainability initiatives with five of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), where the company can make the most significant positive impact. It covers three primary areas: business operations, alignment with the SDGs, and a forward-looking roadmap. Here are some key highlights:

– EcoSmart® Innovation: Targus has recycled an impressive 32.2 million plastic bottles through its EcoSmart® products. In the past year, the company has also introduced certified ocean-bound plastic into its laptop bags. Since launching its EcoSmart technology in 2008, Targus has successfully transformed plastic bottles into recycled materials for its laptop bags, saving the equivalent of 2,008,477 lbs. of CO2 emissions compared to using virgin plastic. In 2024, Targus launched the Coastline Collection, featuring laptop bags made from certified ocean-bound plastic and a high percentage of recycled materials. With 5 trillion pieces of plastic currently in our oceans, and 11 million tons entering annually, Targus’s commitment to using repurposed ocean-bound plastic is a vital step in combating plastic waste in our waterways.

– Enhanced Reporting and Certifications: Targus has strengthened its global reporting practices and certifications, ensuring greater transparency and accountability. The company completed Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reporting through Project Gigaton™, a Walmart initiative aimed at engaging suppliers in climate action alongside NGOs and other stakeholders. In the reporting year, Targus saved 8.9 Mt of CO2e emissions through recycling activities and avoided 7.1 Mt of CO2e in greenhouse gas emissions, achieving Giga Guru status for environmental leadership among Walmart suppliers. Furthermore, Targus improved its EcoVadis sustainability rating, achieving a bronze rating in 2023 at the 64th percentile, placing it among the top 16% of companies in the global computer wholesale, peripheral equipment, and software industries—a significant increase from its previous 51st percentile ranking.

– Workplace Sustainability Priorities: Sustainability is a top priority for businesses today. A recent Targus global workplace survey revealed that 88% of decision-makers view sustainability as essential to their organizations, while 53% of workers consider sustainable attributes when purchasing tech accessories.

As the climate crisis intensifies, Targus recognizes its critical role in addressing environmental challenges.
