The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has officially inaugurated its ICT Regulatory Sandbox, a strategic initiative aimed at fostering innovation within the technology sector. This new platform is designed to help businesses test and refine their products in a controlled regulatory environment.
Mohammed Al Ramsi, Deputy Director-General of the Telecommunications Sector at TDRA, outlined the initial steps for utilizing the sandbox. Interested parties must submit an application through TDRA’s official website, providing detailed information about their new product. This submission undergoes an initial evaluation based on fundamental criteria, followed by a thorough review by the regulatory sandbox team, which assesses legislative, technical, and market impact factors.
Products entering the sandbox will undergo extensive market environment testing and detailed scrutiny. In the final stage, a team of experts will analyze the results to make a conclusive decision about the product’s readiness for market entry. Should the product require adjustments, the company will be asked to address any issues identified by experts and resubmit for further review.
The sandbox is designed to accommodate a wide range of technologies, including virtual, augmented, and mixed-reality products, cloud computing, smart applications, IoT applications, digital twins, and blockchain technologies. It particularly benefits SMBs, startups, and established ICT companies looking to innovate and enhance their market offerings.
This initiative reflects TDRA’s commitment to supporting technological advancement and ensuring a robust regulatory framework for emerging technologies.
