Tenable®, an exposure management company, has announced the launch of AI Aware, a new capability designed to detect and address vulnerabilities in artificial intelligence systems. Integrated within Tenable Vulnerability Management, the world’s top vulnerability management platform, AI Aware provides critical insights into AI applications, libraries, and plugins, allowing organizations to mitigate AI risks without interrupting business operations.
With the fast-paced adoption of AI technologies, businesses are increasingly facing cybersecurity risks. Many organizations struggle to detect vulnerabilities, prevent data leaks, and manage unauthorized AI use. Tenable AI Aware helps organizations tackle these challenges by offering real-time detection of AI-related threats, ensuring security teams can confidently address AI risks.
“In an effort to keep pace with the sea change introduced by AI, organizations around the world ran full speed ahead, potentially bypassing countless cybersecurity, privacy and compliance red flags,” said Shai Morag, Chief Product Officer, Tenable. “Perhaps more so than with any other new technology we’ve seen, there are many risk factors to consider, especially with rushed development and deployment. Tenable AI Aware empowers organizations to deploy AI confidently, ensuring their security measures keep pace with the rapid evolution of AI technologies.”
Recent research by Tenable revealed that more than one-third of security teams have discovered AI applications in their environments that were not formally approved. Over a 75-day period, more than 9 million AI instances were found on over 1 million hosts, highlighting the growing security concerns around AI usage. Tenable has also uncovered vulnerabilities in popular AI platforms such as Microsoft Copilot, Flowise, and Langflow, showcasing the urgent need for advanced AI security measures.
AI Aware’s innovative approach uses a combination of agents, passive network monitoring, dynamic application security testing, and distributed scan engines to detect approved and unapproved AI software, libraries, and browser plugins. This comprehensive detection helps prevent data leakage, unauthorized resource usage, and exploitation, giving businesses better control over their AI environments.
In addition to detecting AI software and vulnerabilities, Tenable AI Aware features AI-specific filters for vulnerability assessments, shadow software detection to expose unauthorized AI development tools, and an asset-centric inventory to track AI-related packages and libraries. This helps businesses maintain a clear understanding of AI risks within their environments.
With AI Aware, Tenable enables organizations to stay ahead of the rapidly evolving AI landscape, ensuring they can securely deploy AI technologies while mitigating potential risks.
