TikTok will launch two new practical tools as part of its digital wellbeing mission in the coming weeks to help its growing community of users manage the amount of time they spend on the entertainment platform in a single sitting. The new tools will allow for regular screen time breaks, allowing users to maintain complete control over their TikTok experience.
According to Global Media Insight, the average daily internet time in the UAE is 7 hours and 24 minutes per person, which is why a new screen time dashboard will provide TikTok’s creative community with information about how much time they spend on the platform.
TikTok users will be reminded to take a break after a certain amount of uninterrupted screen time, which they can set according to their preferences and convenience.
Commenting on the well-being updates, Dr. Hamed AlNeyadi, the Director Executive Government Relations of IAT/ACTVET and member of TikTok MENA Safety Advisory Council, said “It’s essential that TikTok provides tools to control our time on the platform, this will increase the productivity time for the user and improve their physical and mental health. By providing options for parents to manage and control screentime for their children on TikTok, it helps to promote healthy use and proactively assists the user to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”
TikTok will also launch weekly digital well-being prompts for the community’s younger members. When users aged 13 to 17 spend more than 100 minutes on the app in a single day, TikTok will remind them to use the screen time limit tool the next time they open the app.
The new features are in line with TikTok’s goal of providing a safe and positive experience for all of its users, as well as ensuring that the entertainment platform is equipped to provide the best viewing options for the TikTok community.
The entertainment platform is dedicated to providing digital experiences that bring our community joy, entertainment, and enrichment. Part of this includes giving the community a positive relationship with their devices and giving them more control over their experiences. This is why TikTok is taking a number of steps today to support our community’s digital well-being as they create, including the new screen time management feature, which allows users to limit the amount of time they can spend on the app without interruption.
TikTok is assisting in the rollout of the new screen time management tools and encouraging its community to think about their digital habits by publishing a new guide on the platform’s Safety Centre titled “How can I reflect on my digital well-being with my family and friends?”
The guide encourages the TikTok community to think about how they spend their time online – whether on TikTok or elsewhere – and how it makes them feel as they set the boundaries that are right for them.
The tools are part of TikTok’s ongoing efforts to nurture its diverse global community and create new tools and initiatives that support an environment in which its users can create a personalized experience, express themselves, and have fun.
The new features, which will be available in the coming weeks, will be found in the Privacy and Settings section, under the section Digital Wellbeing.
