UAE AI Award 2024: Sheikh Mohammed Honours Innovation Leaders

In a prestigious event held during the UAE Government Annual Meeting 2024 in Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, honoured the recipients of the UAE AI Award. The ceremony, attended by dignitaries including His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, celebrated leaders advancing AI integration in government and public services.

Sheikh Mohammed underscored the transformative impact of AI on public services and business, stating, “Artificial Intelligence will radically change business and the delivery of public services, and we are determined to be at the forefront among countries adopting AI tools to accelerate government work.”

The event saw the presence of prominent UAE leaders, including H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and several key officials from across the emirates. Launched by the UAE Council for Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain, the UAE AI Award recognizes federal, local, and semi-government bodies championing AI applications to foster digital innovation and creative competitiveness across the nation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was awarded in the Service Excellence category for its pioneering *Smart Mission* project, an AI-powered consulate service that eliminates the need for human intervention. Initially launched at the UAE Embassy in South Korea, the project will soon expand to five additional locations over the next six months.

DP World was honoured in the Operational Efficiency category for its AI-driven *Tanbeeh* platform, developed by Emirati talent. Tanbeeh offers real-time detection capabilities, including fire detection within five seconds, personal safety monitoring, 99% accurate facial recognition for seamless site access, and predictive traffic analysis to ease congestion with up to 90% accuracy.

The Decision-Making award went to the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility) for its *STEAM+* system, an advanced modelling and analysis tool. Leveraging big data, STEAM+ processes over 70 billion data matrices to aid transportation decision-making across Abu Dhabi, offering insights into transportation patterns, population demands, and future mobility trends.

The Emirati AI Solutions award was presented to the Advanced Technology Research Council for its *Falcon* language model. Developed by the Technology Innovation Institute, Falcon is the first large generative language model from the Arab world, rivaling offerings from global tech giants. Projects like RAZI and LAW71 have thrived with Falcon, demonstrating the UAE’s AI capabilities.

With over 225 entries from government, semi-government, and private organizations, the UAE AI Award spotlighted 12 finalists evaluated on innovation, ethics, scalability, and impact, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to a digital, AI-driven future.
