UAE Astronauts Inspire Youth at ‘Future Heroes Summer Camp

The Museum of the Future in Dubai hosted UAE Astronauts Mohammed Al Mulla and Nora AlMatrooshi at the ‘Future Heroes Summer Camp’ on 24 July 2024. Organized in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC), the event aimed to inspire young minds and foster a deeper interest in space exploration. The astronauts shared their journeys and experiences, including rigorous training, upcoming missions, and the realities of space travel, captivating the young attendees and sparking their curiosity. The visit concluded with a memorable group photo at the museum.

The Future Heroes Summer Camp, now in its third year, runs until 1 August 2024. It offers a dynamic and educational program for children aged 6 to 13, featuring hands-on workshops, guided tours, and immersive experiences. The camp is designed to foster creativity, encourage innovation, and help children develop a profound understanding of the world around them. Activities tailored for children aged 6 to 9 nurture curiosity and creativity, while advanced sessions for those aged 10 to 13 are designed to inspire and challenge them.

Mohammed Al Mulla, a celebrated UAE astronaut, is a member of NASA’s Astronaut Candidate Class of 2021. He holds a bachelor’s degree in law and economics and an Executive Masters of Public Administration from the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government. Before becoming an astronaut, Al Mulla served as the Head of the Training Department at the Air Wing Centre of Dubai Police, embodying dedication and perseverance as a role model for aspiring astronauts.

Nora AlMatrooshi is the first Emirati female astronaut and holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the United Arab Emirates University. She has undergone training at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences in Finland and worked as an engineer at the National Petroleum Construction Company before her selection as an astronaut. AlMatrooshi’s achievements pave the way for future generations of women in space.

The comprehensive schedule of the Future Heroes Summer Camp ensures that children are engaged throughout the day, balancing educational content with playful exploration. The camp provides an opportunity for children to develop new skills, make new friends, and explore their potential in a supportive and stimulating environment. The Museum of the Future and MBRSC continue to work together to inspire the next generation of space explorers, fostering a deeper interest in space and science among young minds.
