In a groundbreaking collaboration, the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) and Huawei have introduced the state-of-the-art AI ICT Academy Lab, signaling a significant advancement in Qatar’s educational sphere. The inauguration event saw the participation of distinguished government officials, highlighting the crucial role of public-private partnerships in driving AI progress in the country.
As Qatar embraces the fourth industrial revolution propelled by AI, efforts to bridge the digital gap through skill-building initiatives become paramount. The newly launched AI ICT Academy Lab, coupled with Huawei Cloud capabilities, aims to empower students with cutting-edge AI skills essential for Qatar’s digital evolution. Aligned with Qatar’s National AI Strategy, focusing on education, data access, employment, business, research, and ethics, the lab sets the stage for a future where innovation flourishes.
Central to the unveiling was the presence of an AI Avatar, symbolizing the fusion of technology and education. This demonstration vividly illustrated AI’s transformative potential in nurturing digital proficiency and reshaping educational paradigms, laying the groundwork for a future driven by innovation.
Dr. Salem Al-Naemi, President of UDST, emphasized the significance of the partnership in fostering innovation and educational excellence. He stated, “The launch of the UDST-Huawei AI ICT Academy Lab marks a pivotal moment in our commitment to fostering innovation and excellence in education.”
Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Alex Zhang, CEO of Huawei Technologies LLC, underscored the collaborative effort in advancing technological frontiers. During the ceremony, UDST and Huawei celebrated ICT academy professors certified as Huawei ICT Academy Instructors. Additionally, UDST students were commended for their outstanding performance in Huawei’s “Seeds for the Future” CSR program, earning them the opportunity to participate in a digital tour in China.
Looking forward, Huawei plans to organize a Hackathon to enhance student capabilities in utilizing Model Arts in education through the Huawei Cloud.
