Veeam® Software has announced the appointment of Niraj Tolia as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Tolia joins Veeam following the acquisition of Alcion, an AI-driven, security-first data management startup he co-founded alongside Vaibhav Kamra. With their team, the co-founders bring a deep technical understanding and alignment with Veeam’s mission, positioning them to enhance the company’s product offerings.

In his role as CTO, Tolia will lead the strategy and engineering efforts for the Veeam Data Cloud (VDC), expanding Veeam’s cutting-edge data resilience solutions into a comprehensive suite of services. Collaborating with Anton Gostev, Veeam’s Chief Product Officer, Tolia will focus on maintaining the company’s leadership in data resilience through continued innovation. The Alcion team has already integrated into Veeam to accelerate these initiatives.

Anand Eswaran, CEO of Veeam, remarked, “Niraj is one of those rare individuals who not only understands where the market is headed but also possesses the skills and vision to bring that future to life for our customers. His success with Kasten, now the top Kubernetes data resilience solution after Veeam’s acquisition, speaks volumes. With Veeam Data Cloud being our fastest-growing product, Niraj’s leadership will help redefine the data resilience market yet again.”

Tolia’s extensive experience, including building Kasten, makes him uniquely suited for this role. He and Kamra’s expertise in data management and cloud-native technologies, paired with their understanding of Veeam’s culture, will drive new levels of innovation.

“Everything starts with the customer,” said Tolia. “As we live in an increasingly digital world, protecting data from threats and ensuring resilience is critical. The combination of Alcion’s AI and security features with Veeam Data Cloud’s power presents a unique opportunity to elevate our solutions and reinforce Veeam’s leadership in the data resilience space.”

A seasoned entrepreneur, Tolia previously founded Kasten and led the Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes business unit. Before that, he was instrumental in product development at Maginatics, which was acquired by Dell EMC. Tolia holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.

Tolia, Gostev, and other industry leaders will be speaking at the VeeamON Data Resilience Summit, scheduled virtually on October 1 in EMEA and the Americas, and October 2 in Asia.
