Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a provider of critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions, has announced the launch of high-capacity models in its Vertiv™ Liebert® AFC inverter screw chiller range, featuring low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant. These new models, now available in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), deliver up to 2.2 MW of cooling capacity in a single frame, significantly reducing the carbon emission footprint. This innovation requires fewer units to achieve desired capacity, resulting in lower installation and maintenance time and costs for data center operators.

The latest Liebert® AFC models are high-density, outdoor, free cooling chillers, offering the industry’s highest capacity within a compact form factor. Designed for hybrid operation in data centers employing AI and high-performance computing (HPC) liquid cooling applications, these chillers comply with current EU regulatory standards. As a key component of Vertiv’s comprehensive data center solutions, the Liebert AFC chillers can be integrated with chilled water systems, including the Vertiv™ Liebert® PCW perimeter air handler, Vertiv™ Liebert® XDU coolant distribution unit, Vertiv™ Liebert® CWA thermal wall system, and Vertiv™ Liebert® iCOM™ CWM smart control. This integration allows operators to effectively meet the cooling demands of colocation and cloud data center applications.

“With the rising demand for AI and HPC deployments, our customers are increasingly looking for solutions that offer higher cooling capacity in a compact design,” said George Hannah, senior global director for chilled water systems at Vertiv. “Our new Liebert AFC low-GWP chillers provide up to 2.2 MW of capacity, significantly minimizing the time, cost, and complexity associated with deploying these systems. This solution underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility, compliance with the latest regulations, and our dedication to maintaining industry-leading expertise in air and liquid cooling applications.”

The Vertiv™ Liebert® AFC chillers also deliver up to 20% lower annual energy consumption compared to traditional fixed screw solutions. The inverter-driven compressor reduces energy usage, particularly during peak loads, which increases power availability for IT equipment. Advanced regulation algorithms ensure precise control of fluid delivery temperature to indoor units, enhancing cooling reliability and continuity. Additionally, the unit utilizes the eco-friendly refrigerant R1234ze HFO, enabling data center operators to comply with the EU F-Gas Regulation 2024/573 and support their sustainability initiatives.
