In response to the growing need for solutions that support high-density computing in crowded data centers, Vertiv (NYSE: VRT), a global critical digital infrastructure and continuity solutions company, has unveiled the Vertiv™ EnergyCore battery cabinets. These factory-assembled cabinets, featuring Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LFP) battery modules and an internally powered battery management system, are now available worldwide. They are compatible with most current and legacy three-phase Vertiv™ uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, including the newly introduced Vertiv™ Trinergy™.

Optimized for a five-minute end-of-life runtime at 263 kWb per compact 24” wide (600mm) cabinet, the Vertiv EnergyCore cabinets operate across a wide temperature range, making them ideal for high-density environments. Compared to traditional VRLA batteries, lithium batteries are lighter and more compact, enabling users to deploy fewer cabinets. The cabinets feature an internal two-hole lug, eliminating the need for a conduit box, and require no external control wiring on-site, which reduces deployment time and costs associated with traditional assembly methods. Additionally, the cabinets are equipped with an intuitive interactive touch screen HMI display for visibility and control over the cabinet, operating system, and installed batteries.

The integrated battery management system, powered by Vertiv EnergyCore batteries, simplifies installation by removing the need for an external power source. It includes lifetime onboard data storage that tracks performance over charge-discharge cycles and service events, facilitating accurate state-of-health reports useful for warranty support and predictive analytics. Remote monitoring capabilities are also available via Vertiv™ Alber™ Battery Xplorer Enterprise.

Milind Paranjape, Vice President of Energy Storage at Vertiv, stated, “The proliferation of artificial intelligence and other high-performance computing applications is putting a premium on the ability to deliver more power in smaller, hotter spaces. With our Vertiv EnergyCore battery cabinets, we are delivering exactly what our customers and our industry need—compact, high-power energy storage capable of operating safely and optimally. Simply put, these battery cabinets are designed for the emerging mission-critical needs of high-density computing environments.”

The modular design of the Vertiv™ Trinergy™ allows each UPS core to be paired with dedicated Vertiv™ EnergyCore battery cabinets in a distributed architecture, ensuring uninterrupted service for critical applications. Due to the power density of the Vertiv EnergyCore design, only two lithium-ion battery cabinets are needed to support each 500 kW Trinergy™ UPS core, in contrast to the three cabinets typically required by most suppliers.

The Vertiv EnergyCore is UL 1973 listed and has successfully passed testing for compliance with UL 9540A standards for thermal runaway fire propagation protection in battery energy storage systems. According to NFPA 855 ESS installation standards, this compliance allows for the waiver of the three feet (92 cm) spacing requirements between racks, which can save space and accelerate deployment.
