Virgin Mobile UAE is taking a crucial step toward becoming Carbon Negative by the end of 2022 and taking the Carbon offsetting app initiative, as world leaders seek new methods to address the climate emergency at the present COP26 Summit.
Virgin Mobile UAE has taken a unique collaborative approach to help make this vision a reality, engaging its consumers in a novel way to make a difference through a simple digital element in the app. Virgin Cell customers can contribute as little as AED 6 to offset their mobile plan’s carbon footprint for a year through the project, which was recently introduced. The company will match every donation to make a good impact on people and the environment.
Following that, interactive aspects in the app will engage customers and aid in educating and inspiring them to live a more sustainable lifestyle. Virgin Mobile has pledged to become carbon-neutral by 2022 as a result of this action.
Marking this key milestone for the brand, Rob Beswick, Managing Director for Virgin Mobile UAE, said, “Climate change matters, and it’s clear that brands have a responsibility to put sustainability at the center of their strategy. We stepped into 2021 with a heightened sense of conviction that we must challenge ourselves to think bigger and do much more in partnership with others to take care of the planet we share.”
He added, “Last month, Virgin Mobile UAE turned its operation Carbon Neutral. Our next step is to work towards being Carbon Negative, and we hope that by launching this new digital app feature, we can achieve that together with our customers. By committing to match every contribution our customers make, we want to demonstrate how we can build a better future together. With these new innovations and creative ideas, we are confident that we can make Virgin Mobile UAE the first truly Carbon Negative mobile brand globally by the end of 2022.”
Virgin Mobile, the UAE’s first fully digital customer-focused mobile brand, achieved net-zero carbon emissions this year by investing in various business and community programs in collaboration with the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence.
Virgin Mobile UAE acquired important insights into overall emissions across all aspects of its operations with the support of the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence. Emissions calculations were used to develop and implement various sustainable processes for Virgin Mobile UAE’s overall operational emissions reduction, including new ways of working related to business travel, material reduction, reuse, energy efficiency, and sustainability awareness and education initiatives. As a result, Virgin Mobile has developed a new app feature that allows consumers to contribute a modest amount to help offset the carbon emissions generated when they use their Virgin Mobile plan for data and voice.
Furthermore, the organization invests in and partners with local community projects, such as the first landfill gas (LFG)-to-energy plant in the Middle East, which is located in Dubai. Green Energy Solutions & Sustainability LLC (GESS), which is led by Green Energy Solutions & Sustainability LLC (GESS) and is certified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), focuses on waste management in the MENA region, particularly landfill gas project development, which converts waste gas into renewable energy.
