Dubai has become a hub for innovation as government officials, global industry leaders, and experts convened for the World Future Economy Digital Leaders Summit on Monday. The summit focuses on AI-driven economic transformation, coinciding with GITEX GLOBAL, the world’s largest tech event, which kicked off at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

This year’s GITEX GLOBAL emphasizes the theme “Global Collaboration to Forge a Future AI Economy.” Key discussions on “Tech Investment Day” spotlighted the burgeoning next-gen semiconductors market, projected to reach a value of USD $1 trillion by 2030, alongside crucial topics on data governance.

The summit comes as the UAE accelerates its adoption of AI across various sectors, with the national AI market valued at USD $3.47 billion last year. H.E. Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE’s Minister of Economy, underscored AI’s vital role in shaping the country’s economic future. He noted that AI is already transforming everyday activities—from transportation to food delivery—and emphasized the need for individuals and companies to effectively harness AI for further growth.

GITEX GLOBAL has recorded its largest international participation to date, with a remarkable 40% increase in attendees. This year marks a historic presence for Europe, as the region’s tech industry is expected to grow by 12% by the end of 2024. Stephane Ouaki, Head of Department at the European Innovation Council, highlighted the Council’s commitment to fostering game-changing innovations and providing entrepreneurs with the knowledge and opportunities to enhance their businesses.

Ignacy Niemczycki, Undersecretary of State in Poland’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology, shared insights on how Poland is embracing technology. He remarked on the nation’s cultural commitment to technology and the resilience of its economy over the past 30 years. Niemczycki noted a growing interest in STEM fields, with many aspiring software engineers emerging from Poland.

Dr. Jaroslaw Kutylowski, founder and CEO of DeepL, a leading global language AI company, discussed the importance of innovation in their business strategy. He stated, “The models we have built have remained true to our products, leading to our success. To continue progressing, we must keep innovating.”

The event also featured the inspiring story of Heman Bekele, TIME’s 2024 Kid of the Year for inventing a potential skin cancer treatment. Bekele shared how his past failures in creating an innovative soap product strengthened his resolve and fueled his passion for success.

GITEX GLOBAL runs until October 18 at DWTC, showcasing its largest and most international edition yet, featuring over 6,500 exhibitors, 1,800 startups, and 1,200 investors from more than 180 countries. The event is part of a global network of tech events, including GITEX EUROPE in Berlin, GITEX ASIA in Singapore, GITEX AFRICA in Morocco, and GITEX NIGERIA, all designed to foster collaboration and drive innovation in the tech landscape of tomorrow.
