SolarWinds, a global IT management software company, unveiled its 2024 IT Trends Report, highlighting a pivotal question: Is AI a friend or foe for IT professionals across EMEA? Based on a comprehensive survey of nearly 700 IT experts, including 297 from the EMEA region, the report underscores a strong desire among respondents to integrate AI technology, tempered by significant apprehensions regarding data quality, privacy, and security.

Despite widespread interest in leveraging AI’s potential benefits, concerns linger over organizational readiness and infrastructure limitations. A substantial majority express doubts about their company’s capability to effectively integrate AI, citing insufficient data quality and security vulnerabilities as primary obstacles.

Krishna Sai, Senior Vice President of Technology and Engineering at SolarWinds, commented on the findings, noting, “While AI promises transformative capabilities, its rapid deployment without robust infrastructure and security measures poses substantial risks. IT leaders advocate for a cautious, informed approach that prioritizes security, fairness, and transparency.”

Key insights from the report include:

– AIOps Leading Transformation: AIOps emerges as the preferred AI application for enhancing operational efficiency, with 28% of respondents highlighting its potential impact.

– Data Quality Challenges: Only 33% of respondents express high confidence in the quality of data powering AI technologies, with data integrity ranking as a top concern alongside security and cost barriers.

– Privacy and Security Hurdles: Overwhelmingly, privacy (42%) and security risks (39%) are cited as the foremost barriers hindering AI adoption, underscoring the need for stringent regulatory frameworks.

– Call for Government Oversight: A significant majority (67%) of IT professionals advocate for increased government regulation to address security concerns, while 60% seek regulations to safeguard privacy.

To address these challenges and foster responsible AI integration, SolarWinds recently introduced its AI by Design framework. This initiative aims to set industry standards by emphasizing privacy, security, fairness, and transparency in AI development. The framework underscores SolarWinds’ commitment to supporting IT teams in navigating complex digital environments with confidence.

SolarWinds’ latest advancements, including its AI generative engine, build upon its legacy of empowering IT professionals with innovative solutions tailored to modern hybrid IT environments.
