In alignment with this year’s Earth Day theme, “Planet vs Plastics,” Acer has joined forces with Plastic Bank to undertake a significant environmental initiative. Their commitment involves the collection and recycling of a minimum of 50 tons of plastic waste from the environment throughout 2024. Plastic Bank, headquartered in Canada, specializes in combating the escalating problem of plastic pollution by establishing recycling networks and fostering economic opportunities in vulnerable coastal regions.

Through Acer’s Impact Program Partnership with Plastic Bank, it is estimated that over 2.5 million plastic bottles’ worth of waste will be prevented from entering the oceans. This is achieved through the engagement of collection members across Southeast Asia, who exchange their gathered plastic at Plastic Bank branches for the local market price, along with supplementary benefits such as meal vouchers and health insurance.

Acer’s collaboration with Plastic Bank aligns with various United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including poverty eradication, promotion of decent work and economic growth, responsible consumption and production, preservation of life below water, and fostering partnerships for sustainable development. Additionally, Acer has set ambitious Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) objectives, aiming to incorporate 20-30% Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) plastic content in computers and displays by 2025, with a long-term vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The company has already taken significant steps towards these goals, introducing eco-friendly initiatives like the Vero line, which features PCR versions of plastics commonly used in electronic products. Furthermore, Acer demonstrated its dedication to carbon neutrality with the launch of the Acer Aspire Vero 16, its inaugural carbon-neutral PC, in December 2023.

Looking ahead, Acer remains committed to innovation and sustainability, pledging to adapt to industry changes and evolving consumer lifestyles while promoting eco-conscious solutions to ensure the long-term well-being of both its operations and the environment.
