Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has been named a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems (DBMS) for the third consecutive year in 2022, as well as a Challenger in its Magic Quadrant for Network Firewalls for the second consecutive year.
The award, in the opinion of Alibaba Cloud, highlights the company’s capabilities in network firewall and cloud DBMS services. In specific markets, the reports identified the most important providers, and based on a variety of criteria, evaluated their Completeness of Vision and Execution Capability.
Delivering cloud database management systems
Alibaba Cloud’s DBMS is capable of handling various use cases such as operational, analytical, multimodal, and real-time support due to its diverse capabilities. This has resulted in significant growth in the DBMS business for Alibaba Cloud, with numerous success stories across different industries and organizations. The cloud-native relational database, PolarDB, is particularly notable for its ability to manage high-concurrency and elasticity situations, such as the world’s largest shopping festival.

For practical use cases, PolarDB and PolarDB-X are offered by Alibaba Cloud, while AnalyticDB and MaxCompute are offered for analytical use cases. Alibaba Cloud offers the multi-model database Lindorm and cloud-native in-memory database Tair for non-relational and real-time use cases.
Building network firewalls
The cloud service provider offers a wide range of security products, and managing them centrally through the Alibaba Security Center has made network management and vendor consolidation more convenient.

Alibaba Cloud Firewall is one of the first Software-as-a-Service firewalls deployed on the public cloud. It can be activated without complex network configurations or installation, acting as an all-in-one solution capable of managing various security features. These include inbound and outbound traffic from IP addresses, access control between VPC networks and visualization of traffic between security groups for customers to secure the traffic and meet compliance requirements.
