AstraZeneca introduced Health Gate, an all-in-one health and wellbeing patient care app aimed at individuals suffering from chronic diseases such as cancer, heart failure, renal disease, and diabetes.

To coincide with the launch of the mobile app, AstraZeneca has released findings from a recent UAE poll, revealing the potential for innovative solutions, such as Health Gate, to help individuals with diabetes and their carers during the epidemic.

According to the International Diabetes Federation, diabetes affects about one out of every eleven individuals worldwide (around 463 million people). Diabetes is estimated to affect 95 million individuals in the MENA area by 2030, and 136 million by 2045. According to reports, one in every six persons in the UAE is infected with the illness.

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Eva Turgonyi, Medical Director at AstraZeneca GCC, said: “Diabetes is a serious public health burden in the UAE which affects 1 in 6 people. The survey has highlighted that patients often find it overwhelming and time-consuming to manage their condition. Common challenges include lack of access to structured information, fear of insulin injections and fear of developing hypoglycaemia. With 80% of respondents expressing they would use a diabetes management app to support them, we believe Health Gate is a unique addition to the digital health management tools currently available and will further empower patients in the UAE to lead fuller, healthier and happier lives.”

As part of AstraZeneca’s commitment to empowering patients to live healthier lives in the UAE, the firm created Health Gate to assist in the management of chronic health issues. The smartphone application, which is accessible in Arabic and English, will assist patients in managing telehealth visits, doing regular tests at home, sending and tracking medication reminders, and calculating body mass index in a user-friendly manner. It also offers health and lifestyle advice, as well as a library of meal recipes written by health and medical professionals.
