DMT Explores Smart City Collaboration in Europe

The Chairman of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), HE. Mohammed Ali Al-Shorafa, led a delegation on a visit to several European cities, including Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Helsinki, and Vienna. The primary objective of this delegation was to promote international cooperation and gain insights into cutting-edge municipal practices, urban planning, and sustainable development.

Throughout the visit, the delegation engaged in discussions to explore potential opportunities for cooperation and partnerships. They also sought to understand the urban development plans and the latest sustainable transportation solutions by meeting with government entities and the private sector.

In Amsterdam, the delegation held meetings with city officials to gain insights into key smart city plans and sustainable mobility strategies. In Copenhagen, the delegation participated in a study tour organized by the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority, during which they received explanations about urban planning methodologies and their impact on the quality of life.

The visit also included a meeting between HE. Mohammed Ali Al-Shorafa and officials from the City of Helsinki. Furthermore, the delegation visited Vienna, a city renowned for its leadership in urban development and the creation of sustainable transportation systems and infrastructure.

HE. Mohammed Ali Al-Shorafa commented on the visit, stating, “Our wise leadership is committed to achieving sustainable development in all areas, making Abu Dhabi a pioneering model in smart cities. Abu Dhabi has been recognized as the smartest city in the Middle East and North Africa according to the IMD Smart City Index.” He added, “Through this visit, we aim to draw from the wealth of experience and best practices in infrastructure. Our department’s vision is founded on innovation and the creation of sustainable smart cities, with the goal of enhancing cities’ and communities’ adaptability and resilience, all in pursuit of excellence in service delivery and the prosperity of future generations.”
