du, a subsidiary of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), has achieved a significant milestone in the implementation of cutting-edge 5G technology. The company has unveiled its latest advancement by initiating the integration of multi-carrier aggregation technologies into its operational wireless network.

This groundbreaking innovation involves the amalgamation of three carriers, each operating at a frequency of 100 Mhz, within the C-Band and 2.6 Ghz band spectrum. This strategic carrier aggregation will empower the network to provide users in the UAE with data speeds that are three times faster than the current offerings.

Of particular significance is the application of this multi-carrier aggregation to enhance Home wireless services, a service originally introduced by du to the UAE market in 2021. This service quickly gained widespread popularity, attracting thousands of users in a remarkably short span of time.

In line with its commitment to meeting future connectivity needs, du has embarked on the next phase of its wireless home broadband service. This advancement is poised to support emerging technologies that demand high bandwidth and low latency, including artificial intelligence, 8K video streaming, metaverse experiences, and UHD cloud gaming. The introduction of multi-carrier aggregation ensures that du’s subscribers can continue to enjoy bandwidth-intensive applications seamlessly.

Saleem Al Blooshi, Chief Technology Officer at du, emphasized the company’s dedication to enhancing user experiences and staying ahead of the evolving connectivity requirements of UAE consumers. Anticipating a significant surge in average bandwidth demands in the near future, he highlighted that multi-carrier aggregation is a proven method for augmenting both peak and average data throughputs in wireless networks. This strategic deployment reflects du’s unwavering commitment to advancing the integration of technology and innovation across all facets of life in the UAE.

du’s record of pioneering advancements in wireless services is noteworthy, as it was the first operator in the UAE to introduce 4G-based home wireless services and subsequently, the first to introduce 5G-based home wireless services. Building upon this legacy, du is poised to offer advanced 5G home wireless services enabled with 3CC (Three Component Carrier) functionality. This enhanced service is well-positioned to support emerging use cases such as artificial intelligence, metaverse experiences, Extended Reality (XR) gaming, and XR meetings, which are expected to gain widespread prominence within the next 12 months due to recent announcements from influential players in the technology ecosystem.
