For a long time, Netflix has been attempting to put a stop to the practice of password sharing, which has cost the firm money. The streaming juggernaut has finally figured out a way to charge users who share their Netflix account passwords after months of thought. The business has stated that starting next year, it would start to monetize accounts that share passwords.

No public announcement has been made on this development by the company but, while declaring the company’s quarterly results it said that it will charge accounts that share passwords for the ‘extra member’ starting next year.

It’s important to note that the company recently unveiled its Profile Transfer tool. Users who share passwords will be able to access another account without losing their Netflix data, which includes My List, personalised recommendations, viewing history, and saved shows and TV accounts, thanks to this feature. Currently being rolled out to all of its subscribers worldwide, Netflix will send them an email to let them know when the function is ready to use in their accounts.

Both the Profile Transfer feature and the tool charging extra members will help the company put the issue of password sharing in its platform behind it. The path that Netflix is taking is pretty straightforward where it is going to charge an account holder for every extra member that they are sharing their password with.

This means that if a user is sharing their Netflix account password with two friends, they will have to pay an additional price for each friend. If the user is okay with paying the additional price, they can continue using the account as they were. If not, Netflix’s Profile Transfer feature will let the two friends create new accounts without missing out on their data.

This implies that if a user shares their Netflix login with two friends, they will each be charged a separate fee. The user can keep using their account as they were if they don’t mind paying the increased cost. If not, the two pals can open new accounts on Netflix and save their data without losing anything thanks to the Profile Transfer option.
