Google and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai shared key insights on artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing, and the evolving digital landscape during a discussion with Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, at the World Governments Summit (WGS) 2025 in Dubai. The event, held from February 11–13 under the theme “Shaping Future Governments,” brought together global leaders to explore technology’s role in shaping economies and societies.

Pichai emphasized AI’s growing influence, highlighting Google’s Gemini model as a driver of efficiency and accessibility. He pointed to global advancements, such as DeepSeek’s open-source AI innovations, as evidence of AI’s accelerating progress. Addressing the future of search, he noted that while AI-powered platforms like ChatGPT introduce new competition, Google continues to experience growth in search volume, reinforcing AI’s role in expanding rather than replacing existing technologies. He expressed confidence in Google’s ability to lead AI-driven search innovations while fostering a diverse technological ecosystem.

Discussing quantum computing, Pichai reflected on Google’s breakthroughs in computational power and underscored the importance of government investment in research and infrastructure to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving field. While acknowledging potential risks, he cautioned against premature regulations and stressed the need for continued innovation to fully understand the technology’s implications before large-scale deployment.

As an AI-first company, Google is embedding artificial intelligence across its product lineup, from Google Pixel’s advanced computational photography to Waymo’s self-driving cars, with international trials in Japan planned ahead of global expansion. He outlined Google’s internal AI adoption strategy, integrating AI tools into coding, customer service, and business operations to enhance efficiency and streamline workflows. He also praised the UAE’s initiative to train one million individuals in AI prompting, recognizing its long-term vision for an AI-powered future.

On the need for responsible AI development, Pichai called for balanced regulations that encourage innovation while ensuring ethical use. He emphasized four key focus areas for governments: developing robust infrastructure, upskilling the workforce, unlocking public sector data for AI improvements, and crafting forward-thinking regulations to promote responsible AI adoption. He also addressed concerns about deepfake technology and misinformation, advocating for global AI standards to mitigate risks.

WGS 2025 brings together 30+ heads of state, 80+ international organizations, and 140 government delegations, with a program featuring 21 global forums, 200+ interactive sessions, and 300+ distinguished speakers, including ministers, industry leaders, and experts. With AI and quantum computing shaping the future, Pichai’s insights reinforced the urgency for businesses and governments to embrace emerging technologies responsibly. Google remains at the forefront of AI and quantum innovation, driving progress that benefits global economies and societies.
