Promoting the inclusion and success of women in the security sector is crucial for fostering diversity, enhancing organizational performance, and addressing gender disparities. During the Women in Security panel at the Intersec 2024 Security Leader’s Summit in Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), participants unanimously recognized that effective training, skill utilization, economic empowerment, and inclusive policy changes are key factors in empowering women within the security sector.

Achieving diversity in the security industry requires a comprehensive approach that tackles societal norms, organizational culture, and individual biases. By promoting inclusivity, creating opportunities, and removing barriers, the security sector can fully leverage the diverse potential of its workforce. The panel emphasized the need for collaboration among governments, industry leaders, and advocacy groups to drive positive change and establish an environment where women can thrive in security-related careers.

Suzan Ahmad Al Ghanem, Section Head – Organisational Resilience and Business at Environment Agency Abu Dhabi, commended the remarkable progress in the UAE towards integrating women into the security industry. She highlighted the strong support from UAE leaders for women’s empowerment across all fields and acknowledged the challenges faced in a male-dominated field. Emphasizing the increasing presence of Emirati women in the military, she expressed pride in their accomplishments and the hope for future female leaders in security.

Addressing the safety of women in the security industry, Lorraine Adkins, Interim Director of Campus Safety Operations at New York University Abu Dhabi, acknowledged inherent dangers for everyone in the field while celebrating the fact that 25% of security officers at the university are women.

Elsewhere at Intersec 2024, over 1,050 sector specialists from 60 countries showcased their products and services across five sectors. Commercial & Perimeter Security, the second-largest section, featured top exhibitors catering to the growing security needs of governments and private sectors. Noteworthy participants included IDIS, known for advanced video solutions, and exhibitors like INFOSEC Communication and Fichet Group presenting innovative security solutions.

Dennis Choi, General Manager of IDIS Middle East & Africa, highlighted the evolving landscape of video technology with transformative AI and communication capabilities, promising significant product launches and enhanced solutions at the event.
