Alef Educators, headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, has been applauded by educators in North Carolina for reducing math learning gaps with its unique digital platform. Teachers from three North Carolina counties say that their students are making progress due to an innovative digital learning platform closing math learning gaps created by COVID-related school interruptions. This summer, Alef Education’s mathematics technology programme is being used in six schools in Ashe, Gates, and Polk counties to aid instructors in assisting children with unique learning needs. They are now sharing their joy of overcoming adversity through an innovative digital learning platform.

Alef Education, a worldwide education technology company that enables 21st-century learning, has teamed up with NexGen Education to provide all North Carolina school districts free access. In the summer experiment, 825 math students in grades 6–8 were reached in the participating counties.

Jamie Graber, a 6th and 7thgrade math teacher at Polk County Middle School in North Carolina, says: “I think Alef Math paired with targeted lessons is helping by ensuring students are truly able to apply the content they learn. Alef Math allows students to review the content just taught and then practice without fear of failure. Alef also provides students with an opportunity for deeper application after the basic concept is understood.”

Experts predict that as a result of the pandemic, such digital tools will become even more critical. As standardized test results show, the average American child is now 8 to 12 percentile points behind in math, with younger students in high-poverty areas and minorities faring even worse.

The platform is being used by the North Carolina districts and the famed Harlem Children’s Zone. School districts across the country are invited to investigate how American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds could be used to adopt the Alef Platform.

Geoffrey Alphonso, CEO, Alef Education, said: “The award-winning Alef Platform provides personalized learning experiences for all students, so they learn at their own pace, anytime and anywhere. The platform is designed to provide the right remediation set and allow students to work at their own pace. We are proud to partner with the schools in North Carolina to support their learning objectives and provide the students with a world-class digital learning experience.”

David Taylor, Managing Partner & Executive Vice President for Services & Solution and partner at Framework Consulting, said on behalf of NexGen stated: “We are honored to be partnering with the global education technology pioneer, Alef Education. Due to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, many students were falling behind in achieving their learning objectives this academic year. The Alef Education summer program supports teachers and education leaders to help address learning loss in Math over the summer to close the learning gaps.”
