Nutanix Survey: AI, Security, and Sustainability Fuel IT Modernization

Nutanix, a hybrid multicloud computing company, has unveiled insights from its latest Enterprise Cloud Index (ECI) survey and research report, marking its sixth global assessment of enterprise cloud adoption. The report indicates a projected doubling of hybrid multicloud model adoption over the next one to three years, as IT decision-makers respond to new imperatives for IT modernization, particularly fueled by the demands of AI, security, and sustainability.

As organizations grapple with the challenges of navigating diverse IT environments, the report underscores the increasing significance of hybrid multicloud infrastructure. Notably, security and innovation emerged as primary factors prompting the migration of applications across different environments in the past year. With AI assuming a central role in business strategies, respondents prioritize investments to bolster AI capabilities, closely followed by commitments to IT modernization initiatives.

Lee Caswell, SVP of Product and Solutions Marketing at Nutanix, emphasized the mounting pressure on IT organizations to swiftly modernize infrastructure, driven by imperatives such as AI, sustainability, and security. The report indicates that 80% of respondents are poised to invest in IT modernization, with 85% earmarking funds specifically for AI support. Caswell stressed the importance of future-proofing IT infrastructure to accommodate emerging technologies, highlighting the versatility of hybrid multicloud solutions in meeting the evolving needs of traditional and modern applications across various environments.

Key highlights from the report include:

– Hybrid multicloud infrastructure is poised to become the standard approach, with 90% of respondents adopting a “cloud smart” strategy tailored to each application’s requirements.

– Ransomware protection remains a top priority for both CXOs and practitioners, although organizations continue to grapple with recovery challenges following attacks.

– Application and data movement across diverse environments persist as a complex challenge, propelled by the pursuit of security and innovation.

– Sustainability initiatives are gaining traction, with organizations actively integrating them into IT modernization efforts.

– Investment in IT modernization is essential to accommodate the demands of AI and modern applications, with edge infrastructure deployments gaining prominence for enhanced data processing and accessibility.

Conducted by Vanson Bourne on behalf of Nutanix, the survey engaged 1,500 IT and DevOps/Platform Engineering decision-makers globally in December 2023, spanning diverse industries and geographies across North and South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), and the Asia-Pacific-Japan (APJ) region.
