Sony Corporation’s operating income increased by 32% in the third quarter of the fiscal year 2021, according to a company statement.
According to the statement, this represents a strong third-quarter operating income of US$4.09 billion (465.2 billion) in FY2021, a 32% increase over US$3.09 billion (351.9 billion) in FY2020.
The company’s fiscal year ended on December 31, 2021, with overall revenues for Q3 FY2021 reaching US$26.66 billion (3.031 trillion), a 13% rise from US$23.69 billion (2.694 trillion) in FY2020.
The significant increase observed by the Pictures and Imaging & Sensing Solutions (I&SS) segments contributed to total revenue and operating profitability.
“The continuous rise in creating content for social media platforms brought an increase in our digital imaging products such as in our vlogging cameras ZV-1 and ZV-E10 as well as our powerful full-frame mirrorless cameras such as Alpha 7 IV and Alpha 7SIII. These products and the new line-up for financial year 2022 will continue to be in demand and we are optimistic of our increased business growth in the region,” said Takakiyo Fujita, Managing Director, Sony Middle East and Africa.
Sony Pictures’ consolidated operating income increased by US$1.31 billion (149.4 billion), or a record 636 percent, in FY2021 compared to previous year’s US$178.5 million (20.3 billion). Its combined revenues climbed to $4.06 billion (461.2 billion) from $1.68 billion (191.2 billion) the previous year. The rise in both total sales and operating profitability was driven mostly by theatrical receipts from Spider-Man: No Way Home and Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Sales in the Imaging & Sensing Solutions section increased by 21.65%, to US$2.86 billion (324.8 billion), compared to US$2.35 billion (267 billion) the previous year. While the entire sales of the Game & Network Services (G&NS) division decreased by US$7.15 billion (813.3 billion) from previous year’s US$7.76 billion (883.2 billion), operating income climbed by 15% to US$817 million (92.9 billion) from US$710 million (80.8 billion).
