Elon Musk has taken over Twitter and fired the CEO, chief financial officer, and general counsel.

According to reports, CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and General Counsel Vijaya Gadde were fired by Musk, who was now in charge of the social media platform.

Just before a court-imposed deadline to finalize his deal late on Thursday, Musk completed the $44 billion acquisition.

“The bird is freed,” Musk tweeted after seizing control of the social media platform.

According to Reuters, Parag Agrawal and Segal were in Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters when the deal was finalized and were escorted out.

In a previous tweet, Musk stated that he was purchasing Twitter because it was crucial to human civilization.

Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla who typically expresses his thoughts in one-line tweets, wrote in an uncommonly lengthy message: “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.”

He continued: “There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left-wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

Musk has criticized Twitter’s “spam bots” for months and made occasionally contradictory statements about the issues with Twitter and how to fix them. However, now he has provided some specific information regarding his plans for the social media site.
