UAE reveals the first 13 “game-changing” technology initiatives

The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) announced the launch of the first 13 of 1,000 technology projects that will be implemented under the recently unveiled Technology Transformation Program.

Etisalat, Cisco, PTC, Oryx Data, One Moto, etc are the major companies that are executing the new projects which were shown at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2022.

The program was introduced by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. It is intended to accelerate the UAE’s industrial transformation and assist in establishing the nation as a hub for Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies and emerging industries.

Companies are advancing the pace of technological transformation, covering UAE’s important sectors and providing for the growth of the knowledge and innovation-based economy.

The UAE is encouraging tech companies from all around the world to participate in its innovation ecosystem as part of the Technology Transformation Program.

The aim is to solidify UAE’s position as a leading place for tech and innovation by attracting and allowing major international companies to test innovations in the nation’s accommodating environment. The programme hopes to boost exports of technological products by about AED 15 billion a year.

Launching the project, Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology said “At the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, we have a clear roadmap for the next 10 years. It is a decade in which the UAE will further enhance its position as a global hub for science, technology, and innovation, in line with our leadership’s vision. Our partners are key to this journey and we are committed to exploring collaborations with all companies that seek to join the UAE in its bold technological and industrial transformation.”

The new initiatives will significantly affect the businesses where they are implemented. Businesses will be able to drastically reduce energy consumption and waste, improve efficiency, boost productivity, and boost competitiveness in international markets by utilising cutting-edge technologies and Fourth Industrial Revolution solutions.

Businesses in the UAE can apply through MoIAT to participate in and benefit from the projects. Three local businesses, Emirates Macaroni Factory, National Paints, and Falconpack, are now receiving assistance from Cisco’s project as they embark on digital transformation initiatives.

PTC is providing free access to its IIoT platform, ThingWorx, to 25 businesses. ThingWorx will help businesses raise the efficiency of their manufacturing processes by assuring asset optimization, worker productivity, quality improvement, and accelerated industrialization.

Etisalat, one of the nation’s largest telecom companies, is creating a platform for industry 4.0 technologies. It is implementing 4IR proof of concept initiatives in the manufacturing industry, collaborating with businesses to support the uptake of cutting-edge technology.

Meanwhile, Ittihad Paper Mill and Strata are collaborating with real-time streaming and IIoT solutions specialist Oryx Data Incubator to improve operations.

As part of its ambition to electrify all last-mile vehicles in the UAE by 2024, One Moto is working on a proposal to create the UAE’s first electric vehicle (EV) assembly, and eventually manufacturing, facility in Dubai.
