UAE’s Terra Tech Ltd., a mobility startup specializing in electric motorbikes and battery-swapping solutions, recently issued a unique challenge to Ali Abdo, a renowned adventurer and Guinness World Records holder. Abdo, known for his environmental activism, was invited to traverse all seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates on Terra’s electric bike without a single recharge as part of the final leg of his ‘Ride to COP28.’
The objective of this initiative was to spotlight Terra’s sustainable transportation solutions, particularly their battery-swapping concept, and its potential benefits for last-mile delivery businesses and eco-conscious communities in the lead-up to COP28.
Abdo accepted the challenge, commencing his journey in Abu Dhabi on November 25th. Utilizing Terra’s electric motorbike and its cutting-edge battery-swapping technology, he successfully completed the journey, reaching Expo City Dubai in time for the commencement of COP28 without needing a single recharge. This feat underscored the durability of Terra’s electric motorbike and demonstrated the viability of its battery-swapping feature for achieving emission-free rides.
Terra stands out as a trailblazer in electric vehicle technology, being the first in the MENA region to introduce a comprehensive battery-swapping and recharging platform alongside a range of electric vehicles. Their network of swapping stations allows riders to seamlessly exchange batteries, optimizing last-mile delivery and promoting environmental sustainability.
Ali Abdo, recognized as a sustainability ambassador in the MENA region, holds multiple world records, including the ‘World’s longest journey on an electric motorcycle.’ His ‘Ride to COP28’ was executed under the auspices of the COP27 Summit Presidency, in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Egyptian Ministry of Environment, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), and the Earth’s Climate for Sustainable Development Foundation.
Commenting on this collaboration, Husam Zammar, Founder and Managing Director of Terra, expressed satisfaction at Abdo’s acceptance of the challenge. He looks forward to showcasing the endurance of Terra’s electric motorbikes and battery-swapping concepts, aiming to build public trust and expedite the adoption of renewable transportation methods.
Ali Abdo shared his positive experience with the Terra electric bike, emphasizing the remarkable aspect of not needing to stop for charging throughout the entire journey. This, he noted, allowed him to cover greater distances daily, emphasizing the importance of transitioning to sustainable transportation to reduce emissions and preserve the environment. Abdo’s journey aligns with the ‘The Ride to 2030’ initiative, combining the appeal of electric bike travel with awareness-raising activities for sustainable development goals in the MENA region.
