UAE Unveils National Space Academy for Future Emirati Space Leaders

The UAE Space Agency has introduced the National Space Academy, supported by the National Space Fund, during the Dubai Airshow. Aligned with the agency’s long-term vision, the Academy aims to bolster sustainability in national space programs and cultivate human resource development. Geared towards advancing the expertise of young Emiratis in space science and technology, the Academy adheres to rigorous international standards, empowering individuals to contribute significantly to the UAE Space Programme.

This groundbreaking initiative is set to transform the acquisition and enrichment of space-related knowledge among Emirati youth, integrating cutting-edge academic research and hands-on practical experience. The Academy, through workshops and activities, accelerates knowledge transfer to aspiring space professionals, contributing to entrepreneurship—a crucial aspect of the UAE’s economic growth.

Sarah Al Amiri, Chairwoman of the UAE Space Agency, highlighted the pivotal role of the AED3 billion National Space Fund in supporting the country’s space sector. Emphasizing the importance of developing Emirati youth’s skills through the National Space Academy, she envisions them as future leaders in sustaining the UAE’s space sector.

Salem Butti Salem Al Qubaisi, Director-General of the UAE Space Agency, expressed delight in the success of space workshops, showcasing Emirati youth’s capabilities. The National Space Academy is expected to play a significant role in providing practical experience, encouraging participation in national missions and initiatives.

Dr. Ray O. Johnson, CEO of the Technology Innovation Institute, stressed the unique and complex nature of the space industry, emphasizing the need for cooperation between the academic sector and specialized companies to train young talents.

The National Space Academy promises a holistic learning experience with theoretical and practical workshops, including space hardware study and meticulous planning for space mission scenarios. The Academy, commencing training sessions in the first quarter of 2024, is the culmination of three-phase space workshops initiated in January 2023, providing hands-on experience and research opportunities for participants.

As a strategic partner of the Dubai Airshow, the UAE Space Agency showcased key achievements, projects, and initiatives, fostering international strategic relations and partnerships within the space sector. The exhibition, held until November 17th at Al Maktoum International Airport, marked the space sector’s first participation alongside aviation and defense pillars.
