Veeam Enhances Microsoft 365 Protection Against Ransomware Threat

Veeam® Software, recognized as the leading market share holder in Data Protection and Ransomware Recovery, has announced the expansion of its collaboration with Microsoft. The company is simplifying the safeguarding of Microsoft 365 through Cirrus by Veeam, a Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) solution designed for Microsoft 365, offering enhanced ease and flexibility. Leveraging the proven capabilities of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, along with a track record of securing nearly 18 million Microsoft 365 users, these new BaaS features will include support for Microsoft 365 Backup Storage. This aims to provide Microsoft customers with industry-leading data protection and ransomware recovery capabilities.

Danny Allan, CTO at Veeam, emphasized the importance of businesses having confidence in the protection of their critical data. The integration with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage is seen as an extension of Veeam’s commitment to delivering advanced features, utilizing the robustness of the Veeam Data Platform to ensure seamless business operations.

Veeam showcased this integration at Microsoft Ignite, demonstrating the potential to rapidly and efficiently restore large volumes of Microsoft 365 data. This capability allows organizations to minimize downtime in the aftermath of a ransomware attack or other data loss incidents.

Richard Riley, General Manager of Low Code and Content Services at Microsoft, highlighted the benefits of Microsoft 365 Backup Storage in offering high-speed point-in-time recovery for data within Microsoft 365 environments. The integration with Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 aims to provide joint customers with rapid resilience through fast backup and restoration of critical business data.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365, recognized as the leader in Microsoft 365 backup, protects nearly 18 million users. Customers have multiple options for utilizing Veeam to manage Microsoft 365, including the new Cirrus by Veeam for a simple SaaS experience, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 for existing software solutions, or a backup service from a Veeam Cloud & Service Provider (VCSP) partner.

The integration work between Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and Microsoft 365 Backup, using backup APIs, is in progress. The updated Veeam offering is expected to be generally available within 90 days of Microsoft 365 Backup Storage becoming accessible.
