YouTube begins rolling out Shorts on TV

YouTube shorts, the short-video sharing platform created by google seems to be doing well for itself. The platform is now even providing a share of ad revenue to its creators.

Now, the tech giant is trying to add bigger screens into its leap and jumping the short-video platform to TV screens and home theatre setups. The company announced that YouTube Shorts will be making its debut on TV.

YouTube had to navigate quite some challenges considering most short-videos shots on the platform are vertical, however, they solved the issues and have created a way for the video to look good on the big screen.

According to YouTube, their research showed that there were distinct advantages of watching shorts on a big screen like it is easier to watch short videos with others and provides a much more comfortable viewing experience. Another research aspect that interested the teams at YouTube was users would like more control over the feed by using a remote which showed that users want to take charge of the viewing experience.

YouTube has also created two versions of the customized viewing experience. One is the simple version where the users get to see the bare minimum info on the screen with basic functionality for interacting with shorts. The other version is the maximal version where the user can see various other functionality and items like related tags, and comments along with a blurred background. This version’s current release has a simplified right-side rail design and more functions and features are expected in later releases.

YouTube believes this bridging of the gap between shorts and tv can help create valuable experiences that will help both creators and viewers.

The new shorts tv is available in TV models after 2019 and on newer game consoles.
