Dubai Showcases Green Push at WFES

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is actively engaged in four panel discussions during the upcoming World Future Energy Summit, hosted by the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) from April 16 to 18, 2024. The summit’s objective is to expedite sustainable development and foster economic, social, and environmental progress. DEWA aims to underscore its pivotal projects and innovative initiatives in sustainability, as well as renewable and clean energy, at its exhibition stand in Hall No. 5 (Energy Hall) within the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, emphasized, “The vision and directives of the wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, have contributed to promoting the pioneering position of the UAE in investing in renewable and clean energy.” Al Tayer further emphasized DEWA’s commitment to supporting national events promoting sustainability and its strategic partnership with Masdar, aimed at developing innovative solutions and projects to solidify the UAE’s global leadership in sustainability and the shift towards clean and renewable energy sources.

Furthermore, Al Tayer added, “Through the World Future Energy Summit, we aim to share our experiences and expertise in diversifying energy sources and increasing the share of clean energy in Dubai,” aligning with Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to achieve 100% clean energy production capacity by 2050.

During the summit, DEWA representatives will participate in panel discussions focusing on various aspects of sustainability and renewable energy. On the first day, Mohamed Abdulkarim Al Shamsi, Chief Officer Climate Change and Sustainability at DEWA, will discuss navigating a low carbon pathway to a just energy transition. On the second day, Mohammad Jame, Vice President – Clean Energy and Diversification at DEWA, will highlight efforts in energy decarbonization and the expansion of renewables, particularly focusing on the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world’s largest single-site solar park.

Moreover, Dr. Hesham Ismail, Senior Manager – Technology Advancement and Demonstration at DEWA, will participate in the Green Hydrogen Summit, emphasizing DEWA’s pioneering Green Hydrogen Project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. This project, the first of its kind in the MENA region, aims to produce hydrogen using solar power, furthering DEWA’s commitment to renewable energy sources.

Lastly, Athbeh Al Shehhi, Senior Engineer – Climate Change and Sustainability at DEWA, will participate in the Youth 4 Sustainability platform, highlighting DEWA’s endeavors in empowering Emirati youth to become future sustainability leaders and contribute to the UAE’s prominent role in climate action.
