Mashreq, a financial institution in the MENA region, has announced the appointment of Xi Liang as its new Head of Artificial Intelligence.

In this role, Xi will lead the bank’s AI strategy, aiming to enhance customer experience, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen Mashreq’s competitive edge.

Xi Liang brings over 15 years of experience in AI across sectors including banking, retail, healthcare, and consulting. She has held leadership positions at Judo Bank and Endeavour Group and has served as an advisor at McKinsey & Company. Her early AI research at IBM earned her four patents and publications in top-tier journals.

Mohamed Abdel Razek, Group Head of Transformation, Technology, and Information at Mashreq, welcomed the appointment. He noted that Xi’s experience in enterprise-scale AI and her focus on ethical and explainable AI would support Mashreq’s innovation goals.

Xi will oversee the development and execution of AI initiatives across all business units. This includes driving advancements in generative AI, intelligent automation, and enterprise-wide adoption aligned with business and regulatory requirements.

Commenting on her new role, Xi Liang said she was excited to join Mashreq and looked forward to delivering responsible, customer-centric AI solutions.

She holds a PhD and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Melbourne, along with certifications in cloud computing, AI governance, and data science.
