Cloudflare, Inc. (NYSE: NET), the connectivity cloud company, announced plans to hire 1,111 interns in 2026. The company revealed that it will also provide U.S. university students with free access to its developer tools for one year. This initiative aims to equip the next generation of technology leaders with hands-on experience and skills to build future applications.

As AI continues to handle basic tasks, new graduates face challenges entering the workforce. Fewer entry-level roles and increased skill requirements make internships more valuable. According to a Stanford study, employment for workers aged 22 to 25 in AI-exposed roles has declined by up to 13% since late 2022. Internship platform Handshake reported a 30% drop in tech-specific postings since 2023.

Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare, said, “Times of transition bring opportunities. While many companies see AI as replacing jobs, we see interns as a way to bring the best uses of AI into Cloudflare.”

Cloudflare outlined new initiatives to support students and emerging leaders:

  • The “Intern-et” program will hire 1,111 interns across Cloudflare hubs in Austin, San Francisco, New York, Bengaluru, Lisbon, and London. Interns will gain hands-on experience and mentorship while working on projects affecting millions of Internet users.
  • U.S. university students with a valid .edu email will receive one year of free access to Cloudflare Workers. This serverless platform allows students to build, deploy, and scale applications directly on the Cloudflare network.
  • Approved startups can work from Cloudflare offices in Austin, Lisbon, London, or San Francisco on select days, fostering collaboration and connections. The Cloudflare for Startups program has provided over $370 million in credits to more than 4,000 eligible startups, helping them grow and scale efficiently.

This move highlights Cloudflare’s commitment to supporting the future of the tech workforce and strengthening its network of developers and innovators.
