The World Green Economy Summit (WGES Dubai) has announced the participation of influential leaders, experts, innovators and representatives from government, business, academia, media and civil society. The announcement underscores the summit’s global importance in driving climate action and sustainable growth.

The 11th edition of the summit is organised by the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO). It will take place on 1-2 October 2025 at the Dubai World Trade Centre under the theme “Innovating for Impact: Accelerating the Future of the Green Economy.” WGES Dubai is held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.

High-level participants include:

  • HH Sheikha Dr Shamma bint Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan
  • HE Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure
  • HE Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment
  • HE Flavien Joubert, Minister of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment, Seychelles
  • HE Max Andonirina Fontaine, Madagascar’s Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development
  • HE Muaviyath Mohamed, Minister of State for Tourism and Environment, Maldives

The summit will focus on seven thematic pillars: technology and innovation, renewable energy, policy and regulation, finance, climate equity, climate resilience and youth in climate action. Sessions will highlight solutions to combat climate change with an emphasis on empowering communities, expanding public-private partnerships and strengthening international co-operation.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy, MD & CEO of DEWA and Chairman of WGEO, revealed that the summit has become a platform for global collaboration on net zero goals. He noted that WGES Dubai promotes investment in clean energy, artificial intelligence and circular economy models.

HE Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak reported that the summit reflects the UAE’s commitment to sustainability. She highlighted Net Zero 2050 and the UAE Circular Economy Policy as frameworks that demonstrate how economic growth and climate action advance together.

International leaders also stressed the importance of climate justice, regional collaboration and innovation in agriculture and renewable energy. Speakers from Seychelles, Madagascar, the Maldives, the Arab Forum for Environment and Development, the Arab Foundations Forum, and the International Center for Biosaline Agriculture shared insights on resilience and sustainable development.

The list of participants also includes Najeeb Saab, Secretary General of AFED; Naila Farouky, CEO of AFF; Dr Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA; Prof Nazia M Habib from the University of Cambridge; author Michael Pollan; and Anand Verma, founder and CEO of ExpectAI, who will discuss the role of AI in driving climate solutions.

Additional speakers include Mohammad Junaid Essa from the UAE Securities and Commodities Authority, Raad Al Saady of ACWA Power, Hakan Ozdemir of Siemens Middle East, Dr Samira Barzin of Oxford University, Beniamin Strzelecki, and Hoor Ahli, former COP28 Youth Climate delegate.

WGES Dubai 2025 will bring together global leaders to accelerate the transition to a green economy through technology, innovation and collaboration.
