Dubai has announced the rollout of a new citywide hospitality technology system that introduces a one-time contactless hotel guest check-in solution. Officials reported that the initiative sets a new global benchmark for convenience, safety, and digital innovation in the hospitality sector. It will allow guests to bypass in-person check-in procedures once the system is implemented across hotels and holiday homes.

The project supports the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which aims to strengthen the city’s global standing in business and leisure. The biometric and digital capability was developed by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) and is now available for integration by hotels and holiday homes. This hospitality technology solution reinforces Dubai’s commitment to advanced digital tools and smart city initiatives.

Authorities revealed that the system enables guests to complete all formalities before arrival using their mobile phones. Users upload identification documents and biometric data once, and the information remains valid until the document expires. Upon arrival, visitors can bypass traditional check-in desks and use quick authentication, such as facial recognition. With repeat visitors comprising nearly a quarter of Dubai’s annual tourism, the new approach aims to elevate convenience and strengthen guest loyalty.

Officials highlighted several advantages of the new hospitality technology:
• Streamlined digital identity verification for faster arrivals.
• Reduced wait times through mobile-based pre-arrival check-in.
• Secure biometric authentication for repeat stays.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum announced that Dubai continues to lead in implementing innovative solutions that enhance the visitor journey. He stated that the rollout aligns with D33 goals and supports a smart, seamless, and secure urban environment.

His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, Director General of DET, reported that the introduction of the one-time contactless check-in system marks a pivotal moment for the hospitality industry. He emphasised that collaboration between public and private sectors is accelerating progress toward Dubai’s tourism and economic objectives.

The solution integrates easily into hotel apps and online platforms. Moreover, officials noted its potential to expand across other tourism touchpoints, including car rentals, to create a more unified and personalised visitor experience. It builds on existing smart technologies already in use in the city, such as smart tunnels at Dubai International Airport, which have reduced passport control processing times to seconds.

Dubai’s hospitality sector continues to support the city’s global tourism growth. The emirate currently hosts 820 hotels and hotel apartments. It welcomed 15.70 million international overnight visitors in the first ten months of 2025, up 5% year-on-year, with guests recording 36.71 million room nights.
