In a world where time, accuracy, and labor efficiency determine the success of every project, construction technology innovators like MECHASYS are redefining job sites with laser projection tech. Founded in Montreal, the company is expanding across Canada, Europe, Japan, South Korea, and the Middle East by using advanced laser projection tech to project construction plans directly onto worksites with high accuracy.

At the ALEC Annual Innovation Day 2025 in Dubai, TECHx Media sat down with William St-Pierre, CEO of MECHASYS, to explore the company’s journey, its unique approach to solving industry pain points, and its vision for the future of construction.

From 3D Printing to Laser Projection: A Strategic Pivot Driven by Real Jobsite Needs

Interestingly, MECHASYS did not begin as a laser projection company. St-Pierre recalls that the startup’s first product was a largescale 3D printing system designed to assemble wall panels. But after visiting multiple construction sites and speaking extensively with contractors, the team uncovered a far deeper issue.

“We realized that the real need wasn’t assembling walls faster,” St-Pierre explains. “Contractors needed to know where walls should be installed in the first place.”

Customer feedback became the catalyst for transformation. Struggling to gain traction with their initial product, the founders went back to the drawing board, to rethink how technology could address this gap. What emerged was a bold idea: a laser projection system capable of displaying construction plans true to scale directly on the job site.

The idea resonated immediately.

“We pitched the concept to contractors in Canada, and they funded its development. At that point we had nothing but the idea, so that was a major validation of the need.”

This pivot laid the foundation for MECHASYS’ flagship solution.

Addressing Global Labor Shortages with Speed, Quality, and Simplicity

Labor shortages have become a global issue, particularly in construction. With aging workforces and growing project demands, contractors everywhere from Japan and South Korea to the Middle East, are seeking smarter ways to build.

MECHASYS positions its technology around three core value propositions and the impact speaks for itself.

  • Speed
  • Quality
  • Simplicity

St-Pierre highlights MECHASYS’ recent work with ALEC Holdings on the Wynn Al Marjan Island project, where the company demonstrated dramatic efficiencies. A layout task that normally required 22 man hours was reduced to just 3 hours using laser projection. This not only reduced labor costs but helped accelerate overall project timelines.

“The project is now expected to be delivered ahead of schedule,” he notes. “Technology like ours helps contractors control their timelines while ensuring quality.”

Inside the Technology: AI Powered Laser Projection with Millimetric Accuracy

MECHASYS has integrated AI across both its system and calibration processes, ensuring that its technology adapts intelligently to varying jobsite conditions. At the core of the platform is the company’s flagship XR Projector, the first system of its kind capable of projecting construction plans with millimeter level accuracy.

“We ingest BIM or CAD files and display them anywhere on the job site,” St-Pierre says. “We can show points, lines, geometric shapes, even textures—whatever contractors need to build.”

This enables trades including MEP, HVAC, tiling, and more to bypass traditional manual marking and install materials directly along laser guided layouts. The outcome: higher precision, fewer errors, faster execution.

Expanding in the MENA Region With New Partnerships and Production Capacity

As demand grows, MECHASYS is strengthening its presence in the Middle East. The company recently announced SITECH Gulf as its new regional dealer, a partnership that underscores its long-term commitment to the region. Meanwhile in Montreal, MECHASYS has secured significant new funding to scale production.

“We’re building a new office and expanding our production facility to meet rising global demand,” St-Pierre shares.

The Road Ahead: Collaboration as the Catalyst for Industry Transformation

When asked what excites him most about the future of construction, St-Pierre points to collaboration—not competition.

“We need lighthouse companies like ALEC that lead the way and inspire smaller contractors,” he says.
“What’s remarkable is that ALEC even invited their competitors to this event. Everyone is working together toward the same goal, driving progress in construction.”

For St-Pierre, the mission is clear: raising the standard of the entire industry.

“We all share a common goal, to make construction better.”

With a powerful combination of customer insight, cutting-edge Laser Projection Tech, and a collaborative vision for the future, MECHASYS is well on its way to reshaping how the world builds.
