OpenAI investment discussions are intensifying as Nvidia, Amazon, and Microsoft hold talks to invest up to $60 billion in the artificial intelligence company, according to a report by The Information.

The report said Nvidia, an existing investor whose chips power OpenAI’s AI models, is in talks to invest up to $30 billion. Meanwhile, Microsoft, a long-term backer, is discussing an investment of less than $10 billion.

At the same time, Amazon, which would become a new investor, is in negotiations to invest significantly more than $10 billion. The report added that the figure could exceed $20 billion.

Furthermore, OpenAI is close to receiving term sheets, which signal formal investment commitments, from these companies. However, the discussions are still ongoing and subject to change.

Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft, and OpenAI did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment outside regular business hours. In addition, Reuters could not independently verify the report.

Meanwhile, Amazon’s potential investment may depend on separate negotiations. These include a possible expansion of OpenAI’s cloud server rental agreement with Amazon. They also involve a commercial deal for OpenAI to sell products, such as enterprise ChatGPT subscriptions, through Amazon.

Earlier this week, separate reports said SoftBank Group is in talks to invest up to an additional $30 billion in OpenAI. This would further strengthen the company’s financial backing.

However, OpenAI is facing rising costs linked to training and operating its AI models. At the same time, competition from rivals, including Alphabet, continues to intensify.

As a result, securing large-scale funding has become increasingly important for sustaining growth and infrastructure expansion. If finalized, the proposed funding round would mark one of the largest OpenAI investment deals in the global technology sector.
