The AI track of the UAE National Experts Programme received more than 1,000 applications in less than two months. The UAE National initiative opened applications on 29 January and closed them on 24 March. This highlights the growing determination of Emirati talent to lead in artificial intelligence.

Moreover, the figure reflects rising interest among Emirati professionals across multiple AI disciplines. These include core technologies, product development, and emerging applications across national sectors.

Participants are selected through a structured evaluation process. This process focuses on academic and professional excellence. It also considers leadership potential and the ability to deliver practical impact within national sectors.

Final selections are expected to be announced in May.

Meanwhile, the inaugural NEP-AI cohort will launch in May 2026 and run until December 2026. During this period, participants will undergo a series of modules. These modules aim to build both technical and leadership excellence in artificial intelligence.

In addition, the programme is structured around six tracks. It spans 25 sectors to ensure alignment between participants’ expertise and national priorities.

Participants will also benefit from two levels of mentorship. First, senior mentors such as ministers, CEOs, and government leaders will provide strategic guidance and national-level perspectives. Second, AI technical leaders will act as dedicated advisors for Capstone projects. They will offer technical direction and applied feedback to enhance outcomes and professional growth.

Furthermore, participants will take part in international study visits. These visits are designed to expose them to leading AI institutions, applied models, and governance approaches relevant to their sectors.

The NEP-AI initiative aligns with the UAE National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031. It also supports efforts to expand expertise in advanced technologies.

Building on the National Experts Programme launched in 2019, the AI track focuses on strengthening national capabilities. Ultimately, it aims to develop a new generation of leaders through the UAE National programme.
