Nutanix and NetApp have announced a collaboration to integrate NetApp Intelligent Data Infrastructure with the Nutanix Cloud Platform (NCP). The integration will support the Nutanix AHV hypervisor later this year. This move strengthens Nutanix Cloud capabilities across hybrid environments.

Together, the companies aim to give customers more choice in optimizing virtualization and data strategies. The integration combines NetApp ONTAP’s data management features with NCP’s hybrid multicloud operations. As a result, organizations can manage data more efficiently across on-premises, cloud, and containerized environments.

Sandeep Singh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Storage at NetApp, said the partnership enables simple, secure, and fast modernization of virtualized environments. He added that customers need a strong Intelligent Data Infrastructure foundation to transform virtualization and data operations at scale.

Moreover, the combined solution is expected to modernize virtualization and hypervisor layers. Customers will be able to optimize storage while preparing for future containerized workloads. This approach supports both current and next-generation IT environments.

In addition, the integration is designed to enable faster VM migration. The NFS-based connection between NCP and NetApp ONTAP aims to reduce complexity and accelerate time to value. Tools such as NetApp Shift and Nutanix Move are expected to allow faster data-in-place VM conversions within minutes.

At the same time, the solution focuses on simplifying operations. Unified management across NetApp ONTAP and NCP is expected to reduce administrative effort and operational overhead. Organizations will also benefit from independent scaling of compute and storage resources.

Furthermore, the platform introduces VM-level granular operations. This allows enterprises to manage performance, storage capacity, and recovery methods from a single interface. It enhances control over virtual environments.

The collaboration also emphasizes built-in cyber resilience. By combining NetApp infrastructure with NCP, enterprises can protect workloads across hybrid cloud environments. The solution includes NetApp ONTAP Autonomous Ransomware Protection with AI and ransomware resilience services to detect threats in real time.

Dallas Olson, Chief Commercial Officer at NetApp, said the partnership strengthens NetApp’s position in storage and data management for virtualization. He noted that the combined solution offers performance, resilience, and scalability for enterprise needs.

Tarkan Maner, President and Chief Commercial Officer at Nutanix, stated that the collaboration allows customers to modernize their virtualization platforms while leveraging Intelligent Data Infrastructure. He added that customers can adopt these technologies at their own pace.

Looking ahead, both companies plan to accelerate AI innovation. They aim to integrate NetApp ONTAP into the Nutanix Agentic AI solution. This full software stack is designed to help organizations adopt AI for business transformation.

Sush Kajaria, EMEA Alliance Sales Director at Nutanix, highlighted that organizations in the Middle East and Africa are focusing on modernization. He said the collaboration will help customers enhance performance, simplify operations, and strengthen data resilience while accelerating migration.

Industry analysts also see this as part of a broader shift. Matt Kimball, VP and Principal Analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy, said the collaboration supports both current virtualized workloads and future AI-driven environments.

Meanwhile, partners have welcomed the move. Jeremy Foster, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Compute at Cisco, said the integration will evolve the FlexPod ecosystem. He added that it enables a unified, secure, and automated environment for modern cloud-native operations.

Joachim Schmitz, Field CTO at System Vertrieb Alexander GmbH, noted that the partnership addresses enterprise needs for high availability. He said it enables a wide range of use cases with strong reliability.

Overall, the collaboration provides a foundation for enterprises to modernize infrastructure and adopt AI-driven workloads. It also reinforces the role of Nutanix Cloud in supporting scalable, secure, and future-ready IT environments.
